The 17th Door isn’t interested in being a normal haunted house.
Located in Buena Park, California, this extreme haunt has developed a reputation for putting guests through intense physical and psychological situations in addition to traditional scares.
The roughly 35-minute experience sends small groups through a series of rooms built around different fears and sensory effects. Guests may encounter water, electrical effects, claustrophobic spaces, moving floors, darkness, restraints, foul scents, extreme wind and close interactions with performers.
It is deliberately intense, and guests are required to sign a waiver before entering. The attraction also uses the safe word “Mercy,” allowing visitors to have an actor back off, bypass certain situations or leave the experience when necessary.
That format makes The 17th Door one of the most distinctive attractions on this list. It isn’t designed for everyone, but for haunt fans looking for something considerably more extreme than a conventional haunted house, few attractions occupy the same territory.
