#13: The Scream Zone

The Scream Zone has been terrorizing the good people of San Diego County for almost two decades. Every Halloween they take over the Del Mar Fairgrounds and turn them into the Del Mar Scaregrounds. Scream Zone has 4 main haunts, then add a few extra features to the mix.

Take on the zombie hordes

Zombie Paintball is always a favorite. You climb aboard a moving tram and head off on a zombie paintball safari. Fend off attacks from zombies that are running rampant and attacking from all sides.

A single house filled with horror

The monstrous mausoleum known as the House of Horror also returned this year. The haunts is separated into 12 new haunts and features, including 13 Ghosts, Zombie House, Monster Attack, Texas Graveyard and the Underworld. The Scream Zone remembers that it is located in Southern California, so it has plenty of movie monsters waiting just around the very next corner to terrify visitors.

A hayride packed with nightmares

The Haunted Hayride is also back, but with brand new horrors designed to terrify the passengers. The great thing about the haunted hayride is that it doesn’t limit itself to a single hayride-inspired theme. Instead you go through nightmare after nightmare specifically chosen to hit all of the major fears. You’ll find a few different kinds of bloodthirsty zombies, murderous mutants, Haitian voodoo, creepy dolls, chilling clowns, and more. The actors are always moving around your cart, so the scares don’t let up as you travel between features.

Chills, thrills, and horrors at the carnival

Completely new in 2015 was the KarnEvil attraction. The scare masters here have created a murderous freak show lead by Dr. Marvel S. Mayhem and his troupe. The actors here are the main attraction, especially the evil clowns that send chills up and down your spine.

You’ll see great attention to detail everywhere you look at Scream Zone, from the sets to the midway to the makeup. That attention is spread out evenly over all of the themes and attractions, and every one of them is a good scare.
